Nowadays it is growing exceedingly easy to associate ourselves to technology due to the interactive media & fast growing developments with respect to architecture & design across the globe.
This fast pace technology which has become simpler to approach on a daily basis gives us more opportunity to see and learn from what's happening around the world. A click of a button and everything opens in front of you. The IAP Architecture lecture series is an effort in the same direction to showcase a variety of different projects designed and implemented by architects of the Country.
This year the presentations are also being held in various Schools of Architecture of the region including Comsats, Islamabad and NCA, Rawalpindi to improve architects / students dialogue and to see the quality of work being produced in these Universities.
It has helped generate a communal activity, improved interactivity, focus and the understanding of how someone approaches a design commission.
After a successful presentation by Ar. Naveed Aslam, the Rawalpindi/ Islamabad Chapter invited Ar. Syed Akeel Bilgrami on 4th November 2011 for a talk organized at the Department of Architecture & Design, Comsats, Islamabad.
It was an enlightening presentation as he started of with a revitalization project he took up in Karachi. He felt that it was very close to his heart as he was able to effectively design a space that came about only through communal cooperation and improved social networking three folds. The presentation was quite powerful and gave an overview and understanding of how the project would be built phase wise and what it will do for the residents of the community. He said it is one way of giving back to the people of the city he lived and worked in for so many years.
He showed in detail the way he approached the master plan, the conceptual design and the use of land in its totality.
Later he showed some of his residential projects ranging from medium size houses to large commissions which showed his simple yet elegant design philosophy that he is known for. He has designed residences in Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Middle East.
His work has wonderful spatial quality, sensitivity to the surroundings, contextually, use of local materials and nature and to top it his intuitive knowledge of the natural beauty of what this Country is all about and how one can use it in his work.
Some of the renowned names of the region and students were present on the occasion. Ar. Mohammad Rafiq Azam from Bangladesh, one of the most well known names of South East Asia was also a guest of IAP at the event.
