NESPAK is a national assest

nespak presentation Asad i khan

A presentation on 'NESPAK in the Field of Architecture' was organized by ARCHITIMES at the Marriot Hotel in Karachi on 15th December 2011.

On this occasion Managing Director NESPAK, Ar. Asad I. Khan, who was the Chief guest, said that NESPAK is an assest for the country because of its remarkable contribution in the field of architecture and engineering.

Ar. Asad I. Khan gave the presentation about his organization. He began by giving a brief overview of the organization with which he has been associated for the past 27 years. NESPAK is the largest Architecture and Engineering firm in Pakistan, with over 80 architects and architectural engineers. It has 23 divisions, of which 3 are dedicated to architecture, based in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. NESPAK has worked on a total of 791 projects, of which 666 have been completed and 125 are ongoing. Furthermore, many of these projects are of such large scope that they are actually composed of several independent projects.

In most of these projects, NESPAK's involvement has been in terms of providing engineering and/or supervision, but many have been designed by the firm's in-house architects.

Because of the vast number of projects, Mr. Asad I. Khan was able to share only a list of selected projects categorized according to type, such as Government Buildings; Transport; Healthcare; Office & Commercial; Housing; Educational; Sports & Recreation; Refurbishment & Interior; Cultural & Religious etc. This was followed by photographs of a few of the buildings from each category.

While showing the PM Secretariat in Islamabad, the NESPAK Director conceded that he had received a lot of criticism for its Mughal style, but said that in such projects the firm had to follow the design brief of the client. He was particularly pleased with the latest NESPAK building in Islamabad - The Telecom Tower.

Some of the projects he showed the audience were: PM Secretariat and PM House in Islamabad; Jinnah Terminal and Allama Iqbal Terminal in Karachi and Lahore respectively; Expo Center in Karachi; Telecom Tower Islamabad; Islamabad Stock Exchange Building; EOBI building in Islamabad; NUST campus in Islamabad.

The NESPAK presentation was preceded by a brief presentation on PVC building products by Engro Chemicals, which manufactures the raw materials for these products. The presentations were followed by dinner.
